The Deputy Judge President of the High Court, Hosea Angula, today, the 15th of September 2021, administered the Oath and Affirmation of office by Mrs. Elsie Nghikembua and Dr. Emmerentia Leonard. Mrs. Nghikembua has been appointed as the Chairperson and Dr. Leonard as Commissioner of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).
The oath/affirmation of the newly appointed members of the Commission is in compliance with Section 9 (1) of the Electoral Act, (Act 5 of 2014) that refers to “Oath and affirmation of office by members of Commission.” Members of the Commission must, before formally assuming office, make an oath or affirmation which is administered by the Judge President of the High Court. The newly appointed Chairperson and Commissioner will assume duty tomorrow, 16th September 2021.
